Loft Insulation being unrolled

GBIS –                    Great British Insulation Scheme

The GBIS aims to reach a larger number of households than other ECO schemes. It aims to deliver a large number of energy efficiency measures as quickly as possible.  To achieve this, the aim is to provide solo, low-cost insulation measures rather than a multitude of larger cost measures. To low income eligible homes, heating controls will also be offered as secondary measures. Heat generating measures are not offered to anyone under this scheme.

Eligiblity for GBIS is divided into groups. The broader group covers all homes that are under council tax bands A-D in England, A-C in Wales and also A-E in Scotland. The low-income group covers those who qualify under the ECO4 scheme. The GBIS focusses on owner occupied homes, however social housing and private rented properties will also be supported.

While the GBIS is mainly offering single insulation measures, this is very important in reducing energy bills. Insulation prevents heat from escaping the property through the roof, walls and floors. Keeping this heat in the property means heating systems don’t need to run for as long or at as high temperature because the heat remains in the home.

The GBIS covers the following measures:

– Cavity wall insulation

– External wall insulation

– Internal wall insulation

– Loft insulation

– Pitched or roof insulation

– Flat roof insulation

– Under floor insulation

– Solid floor insulation

– Park home insulation

– Room-in-roof insulation

–  Smart heating controls (low-income eligiblity only)
