With the UK government actively promoting energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions in homes through The Future Homes Standard. It poses the question: is your home ready for a greener, more energy efficient future?

The Future Homes Standard is set to be implemented this year (2025) and mandates that new homes are to be built without gas heating systems and lean towards low-carbon technologies such as heat pumps.

This blog talks through the benefits of all the measures mandated as well as some changes you can make to help run your home in a more efficient way, as well as how we at The Eco Scheme can help you adopt these measures without breaking the bank.

Solar PV

Whilst Solar PV is not a mandated measure within The Future Homes Standard it’s definitely a measure that won’t hurt. Solar PV and heat pumps are the perfect combination as the energy you generate from solar can help run your heat pump and help prevent those bills from soaring! The MCS foundation found that installing homes with heat pumps and solar can lead to major savings, amounting to an average of £1,341 per year.

Further benefits of solar energy include a return on your investment, whether you go down the private installation route or get funding for your solar system you can make money from selling excess energy your panels generate back to the grid.

Having a solar system installed is a great way to gain energy independence from the grid, it will protect you from rising costs as well as power outages as you will have your own renewable energy source.

Heat Pumps

Heat pumps are slowly becoming less niche, with the Government backing installations of heat pumps through funding (BUS) and making low carbon heating mandatory it’s becoming a more recognised way of heating your home. The UK Government have set a target of 800,000 heat pumps to be installed annually by 2028.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives homeowners up to £7,500 if they are looking to upgrade from old, fossil-fuel or electric heating systems to a heat pump.

Heat pumps are more energy efficient because they transfer heat instead of generating it. Because a heat pump doesn’t rely on gas it saves against future energy price increases as well.

Insulation

Did you know that 45% of your home’s heat can be lost through poor insulation? A home that is insulated properly can retain heat during the Winter but also keep homes cool throughout the Summer.

If you are upgrading your home it is vital to ensure that it is properly insulated so you aren’t wasting any of the money spent upgrading.

EPC Rating

By 2030 it is required that every privately rented property needs to have an EPC rating of C or equivalent in their properties as part of the DESNZ (Department of Energy Security and Net Zero) Plans for change requirements.

If you are a private landlord opting for low-carbon and renewable energy measures can help boost your EPC and ensure you are in line with regulations.

How can we help?

Here at The Eco Scheme we make it our aim to provide the best possible solutions for homeowners to raise their energy efficiency and we help you figure out if you are eligible for all the funding grants available.

We have also started offering private installs of solar systems meaning the move to solar has never been easier.

If you are interested in any of the services we offer please do not hesitate to get in touch and we will do our best to assist.
