What is the Green Homes Wales scheme?
Green Homes Wales is a Welsh Government initiative, managed by the Development Bank of Wales, designed to support eligible homeowners in making energy efficient improvements to their homes. The Scheme offers both interest free financing and fully funded expert support, helping you save money on energy bills and reduce carbon emissions.
We offer comprehensive support to help you make your home more energy-efficient, including:

Expert Guidance
Fully funded access to a Retrofit Coordinator to create a detailed home assessment providing energy-efficiency and decarbonisation recommendations tailored to your individual circumstances.

Flexible financing
Interest free loans ranging from £1,000 to £25,000 with repayment terms up to 10 years. For larger projects, terms may be extended.

Grant funding
- Access to grant funding alongside loans for specific energy efficiency measures, reducing your out-of-pocket expenses.

Designed to support eligible homeowners in upgrading their home.
What types of projects can be supported?
Heating: Air Source Heat Pump, Ground /Water Source Heat Pump, High heat retention storage heaters and Biomass boiler or biomass stove
Generation: Solar Thermal, Solar PV, Solar PV with solar diverter or Solar PVT and Solar PV with battery storage
Fabric: Solid Wall Insulation, Flat roof or room in roof insulation (from 0mm), Loft insulation (virgin loft), Loft insulation (top-up), Cavity Wall Insulation, High performance glazing, Draught proofing, Floor insulation

Are you eligible for green homes Wales funding?
Homeowners must:
- Pass credit checks and affordability assessments
- Not be means-tested
Your home must:
- Be located in Wales
- Be owned and your primary residence
- Not be a new build (built within the last 6 months and unoccupied)
- Not be a listed building or in a conservation area
Private landlords cannot apply but should visit Climate Action Wales for advice.
